I have several garland varieties and I like each of them for different applications.

The garland on the counter is pine. It comes in different lengths, as well as two versions of this same garland.

One is “original” and another is “deluxe.”

The garland on the counter is this one: the deluxe pine, which is fuller than the original pine version.

I also have a cedar version, which if you picture cedar boughs, the greenery is much “drapier” than pine.

I got my faux cedar garland here.

There are also more garland ideas and embellishments with sources this post (including the eucalyptus garland pictured below, which you can find here).

How to choose the right faux garland for you

Here are some things to consider:

Think about the effect you want and the location where garland will go.

Do you want it to be simple, drapey and airy or more lush?

Do you have the space to hang heavier garland or is lighter weight preferred?

Do you have a preference on the type of greenery (pine vs cedar, for example)?

Would you want to mix garland strands together for a unique or fuller look (see this post on mixing garland with ideas and more sources for garland and embellishments).

Note that if you choose the deluxe pine garland, rather than buying two strands of garland to make it fuller you can get just one!

Be sure to measure the length you’ll need for each area of your home so you order the right one! It’s so frustrating to end up with one that is way too short or way too long. Remember to add enough length for for “draping.”

These particular garlands do seem to sell out early, so if you are looking for some pretty garland this year, I would get yours soon (remember to check the length options).

You can use two or more types of garland together.

I share an example on my staircase garland in this post on making Christmas garland look extra full and festive with 25 ideas for customizing your garland.

I also mix real and faux, so investing in faux helps to cut down costs every year (I usually buy real garland for our porch from Costco but I don’t use it in the house because it dries out too quickly).

I also just ordered these pine branches for this year, which I’ll share a photo of soon.

For inspiration, you can see how I used and mixed garland last year in my Christmas house tour post here. There are also sources for some of the unique greenery I mixed in to our garland in that post, so take a look for more ideas!

I’m a fan of decorating simply with greenery, so faux garland is a classic I know I will use every Christmas!
